The understandability of OWL statements in controlled English
Different kinds of controlled natural language (CNL) have been proposed as a front-end for Semantic Web systems, in order to make them more accessible to users with no background in formal notations and methods. This paper investigates whether OWL statements in CNL are indeed easier to understand than in other notations. To this aim, an experiment with 64 participants was conducted that compare...

Predicting the Understandability of OWL Inferences
In this paper, we describe a method for predicting the understandability level of inferences with OWL. Specifically, we present a probabilistic model for measuring the understandability of a multiplestep inference based on the measurement of the understandability of individual inference steps. We also present an evaluation study which confirms that our model works relatively well for two-step i...
متن کاملVerbalizing OWL in Attempto Controlled English
We describe a verbalization of the logical content of OWL ontologies — using OWL 1.1 without data-valued properties — in Attempto Controlled English (ACE). Because ACE is a subset of English, the verbalization makes OWL ontologies accessible to people with no training in formal methods. We conclude that OWL can be verbalized in concise and understandable English provided that a certain naming s...
متن کاملMapping Attempto Controlled English to OWL DL
We describe ongoing work on the mapping between Attempto Controlled English (ACE) and OWL DL. ACE is a well-studied controlled language, with a parser that converts ACE texts into Discourse Representation Structure (DRS). We describe a relatively direct mapping of a subset of the DRS language to OWL DL. This mapping renders ACE an interesting companion to existing OWL front-ends.
